A place to test and try things out

So it’s been a week or two since I’ve started this and I’ve manage to learn a few thing. The biggest thing being that social networking don’t work to well if your not social. Whats the point of using something like twitter if nobody is looking. Obvoiusly, I can only blaime myself for this issue. The number of people that I know that are part of the whole “web 2.0″ thing is some where around 0. Actually I think my wife has a better chance of knowing at least a few people that blog, twitter, flickr, and all that. It seems kind of odd though. Being part of the IT industry. Granted most of the people got in computer tech for the promise of money. Not becouse they enjoyed working on the things. Maybe that my problem.. I need a different “class” of co-worker. One that doesn’t hate electronics.

Things to ponder for a later date I guess.

I wanted to post a few hours ago, but ended up doing other things. Now, I’m kind of tired, but still feel the need to post. Why? Becouse I’m trying to get into a routine of posting at least every few days, just so posting becomes a part of what I do. Blogging seems to be a rather fun thing to do, a outlet of sorts. Granted its kind of nice right now, pretty much knowing that not to many (if any) people are reading / viewing my blog. Now is the time to develop, the page, the writing style, the general topics, and the consistancy of posting. Reading a few other peoples blogs it almost seems that there is a certin amount of concern when someone disapears from their blog for a few days, with out “prior notification” to their readership. The way my habits are right now, that would almost be a common thing for me, to not post for a week at a time, if not longer. Granted, I don’t think there will be another 3 year span between posts like what happened before. So, it’s better for me to try to post at least every 2 to 3 days.

At the risk of sounding like yet another Tech blog, I’d still like to mention a few small items that have recently come into my life. The first item was a belkin FM transmitter that I can plug my Creative Zen Vision M into (Yes, I heard they are planning on droping that model from there product line. And no, I’m not bothered by it, it has served me well in the time since I’ve bought it.). As mentioned in a previous post, at least I think I carried that post over to here, I can now listen to my favoret pod casts (such as Buzz Out Loud) during my drive to and from work.

There was another piece of hardware, that I wanted to mention, but now, I can’t seem to remember what it was. So in it’s place, going back to the podcasts, is the CNet Uber cast. Basicly they’ve taken all there audio podcasts, and put them in one RSS feed, and all of there video casts in to another feed. One stop shopping for both, Good deal :)

Well enough for now.

Ok, well this will be attempt number… something or other to move up to the present in the Technology world and start blogging. Along with fliker’ing (if that’s such a word), probably need to start using twitter and other such social web stuff (yes using that highly technical term and very specific word stuff here). Why, hmm still not sure of that, I guess I’m fine with being a invisibal cog in the wheel of the world. However, since I work in IT, again, every friend and relitive asks me if I know about these things. Time for me to stop going over just what I’ve seen, and actually use the things.

Well I finaly got my son started with his blog. I realize now what the teacher was talking about, when she said he needs to just write, no matter what the medium. It’s been about 20 mins, and all he has is 1, 7 word sentence. Besides being a good exercise for him, this may just be a trial of patients for me. I don’t want to scream and shout at him to get writing, trying to encourage him. I have to leave the spelling and punctuation alone for now, just to get him to keep writing (err typing).

*sigh*

going to be a long hour.

I’m trying to make this a habit to come here at least every other day to post something, maybe someday I’ll follow along some particular topic. Eh, probably not, if I was going to do that, I’ll just make a different blog for that topic. But the writing of whatever is on my mind is good, clears the brain, helps me relax and all that.

Work was cool today, didn’t have to think about anything. Just sit back, log stuff, direct phone calls. No, not my normal job, but it was nice to do something mindless. It was busy enough that the day went quick, but not so busy to be exahusting. Got some good reading done on a XML book, and started in on Eric Myers “Even more CSS” (I think that’s the title, its not around me at the moment, and I’m being lazy and not getting up to find it to make sure). The quick breeze though of it that I did, seemed good. Some very good example projects, of things I have to deal with or dealt with. The first example doesn’t start out well, in my opinion, but more on that book when I get done with it.

I know, how cliche, probably one of the more common titles for the first entry for a blog. It is, however a accurate description of what is going on. There I was, looking around for a web log for my son to post in. Apparently, he is having some problems in school with writing, and his teacher suggested that we increase his opportunities to write stuff. Anything, in any way. It didn’t matter if it was on the computer or using pen (pencil) / paper. Now look what happened, I’m the one writing in this blog. Funny how things work out sometimes.

oops Dinner time, Time to go.
